Every eye surgery you sponsor on this page takes place at Rev. K.S. Joseph Memorial Hospital — a hospital built to serve the rural families that India's healthcare system rarely reaches. Named in memory of Rev. K.S. Joseph, it stands in a region where a cataract can mean the end of a person's working life, and where the nearest alternative may be a day's travel away and far beyond what a farming family can pay.
Patients arrive from villages scattered across the district, many guided by a family member because they can no longer walk the road alone. The hospital's surgeons and nurses examine them, perform the procedure, keep them overnight, and send them home with medicines and a follow-up appointment. The patient pays nothing. That is only possible because donors cover the cost in advance.

Rev. K.S. Joseph Memorial Hospital is a separate, independently owned and operated institution in India. Hand in Hand International does not own, manage, or control the hospital, holds no ownership interest in it, and claims no ownership of the surgeries or medical care delivered there. The hospital's leadership and licensed medical staff are fully responsible for all clinical decisions and patient care.
Our role is narrow and specific: we identify patients who cannot pay, and we sponsor the cost of their surgery so the hospital's team can treat them free of charge. Each gift funds those sponsored surgeries — nothing more. Beyond the cost of the care we sponsor, Hand in Hand carries no ongoing financial obligation to the hospital, and the hospital carries none to us.
We say this plainly because donors deserve to know exactly where their money goes and who does the work. Your gift buys sight for a person who could not afford it. The hospital provides the skill and the facility. Both are necessary.

Verramma still remembers how dark those days were. Her eyesight was fading, and she could no longer see clearly. Even inside her own home, she had to depend on others to guide her. Life felt uncertain and hopeless.
