Getting Started
What is child sponsorship?
Child sponsorship is a monthly commitment to stand beside a child in need, providing quality Christian education, nutritious meals, and encouragement through prayer and care. Your support fuels the Miriam Sponsorship Program, welcoming each child into a loving environment that nurtures physical, spiritual, and educational growth. Together, we are breaking the cycle of poverty through faith, learning, and consistent love.
How do I sign up to sponsor a child?
Visit our Sponsorship Page, choose a child's profile, and complete your donation setup. You will instantly receive a welcome packet and officially begin your journey as a Hand in Hand sponsor.
How long does a sponsorship last?
Typically, a child stays in the sponsorship program until they turn 18 or complete secondary school. This can vary depending on local education systems and personal circumstances. Sponsors may also continue supporting the same child through college or vocational training when available.
Does each child have only one sponsor?
Yes. Hand in Hand follows a one-to-one sponsorship model, ensuring your support directly and personally impacts one child's life. Your monthly contribution goes entirely toward that child's needs.
Your Impact
How does my sponsored child benefit from my monthly support?
Your sponsorship gives a child the essentials to grow, learn, and thrive — including:
- Nutritious meals and supplements
- Educational support such as tuition, books, and uniforms
- Medical checkups and preventive care
- Life skills training and emotional counseling
- Mentorship and safe community programs
Why does it cost more than some other sponsorship programs?
Our approach is holistic. We invest in each child and the world around them — supporting families, creating safe spaces, offering after-school care, and nurturing emotional well-being. Through this model, our donors help build lasting change, not temporary relief.
Is my sponsorship tax deductible?
Yes. Hand in Hand is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States, and your monthly sponsorship donations are fully tax deductible. You will receive an annual tax receipt for your records.
Staying Connected
Can I send gifts or write letters to my sponsored child?
Yes. Letters are a meaningful way to build a personal bond and are treasured by the children. You can also send small gifts or birthday contributions through our gifting program. We will provide clear guidelines and timelines so you can stay personally connected in a thoughtful way.
How can I communicate with the child I sponsor?
You can send letters to your sponsor child by sending an email to letters@handinhandwecan.org with a subject line of your child sponsor number. The team at hand in hand will send that letter to the child. You will receive a response when the bi yearly letters are received. Once in July and once in January..
Can I visit my sponsored child?
Yes. We organize guided sponsor trips that allow you to meet your sponsored child in person. These visits are often life-changing for both the child and the sponsor. Contact our team to learn about upcoming trips and safety guidelines.
Changes & Transitions
What happens if I can no longer continue my sponsorship?
We understand that life can change. If you are unable to continue, we will immediately begin finding a new sponsor so the child's support never stops. During the transition, our team ensures the child continues receiving complete care without interruption.
What happens when my sponsored child graduates or leaves the program?
You will receive a personal update and an invitation to sponsor another child. We will also share a final report showing the difference you made — closing one story with hope because of your care.
